Growing up my grandmas house would always smell like cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla every Sunday and I knew that meant I would get powderbuns to take home!

Powderbuns are by far the easiest treat to make.

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups flour

1 pack coconut milk

1 1/4 cup sugar- I like to put on cup brown sugar and the 1/4 white sugar.

(If you use only white sugar it will be sweeter than using only brown sugar so I mix them.)

1 Tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp nutmeg

6 tbsp shortening (I like to use vegetable shortening)

1 cup water and add more as needed

INSTRUCTIONS:

Add all dry ingredients to a bowl and blend well until incorporated.

Add shortening and use either a whisk or your hands and mixed that up in the flour mixture.

When you have a crumbly consistency then you slowly fold in the water with a spoon until the dough looks sticky but doesn’t feel sticky.

When design texture is reached, grease your pan with shortening and start scooping powderbuns onto the pan. I use only one spoon scoop per powderbun but you can do whatever size you choose.

To get the traditional look don’t flatten them, just leave the little ball and they’ll spread when baking.

Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees (or a few minutes more) if you prefer them harder)

Let rest atleast 5-10 minutes before messing with them.

Add cheese on top or a sprinkle of salt and enjoy!
