BUILD A RAISED BED

DIY raised beds with materials we found

WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE A RAISED BED IN THE GARDEN

They're a great way to grow small plots of veggies and flowers. Raised beds help to keep grass and other weeds from taking over your garden. It prevents soil compaction which allows the soil to drain properly and serves as a barrier to pests like snails and slugs. You can build a raised bed or do a no-dig raised bed which is just adding a top layer of dirt on an area of land covered with plastic or something similar to stop the weeds from growing through.

WHAT TO GROW IN A RAISED BED

As mentioned above, they are great for small plots of veggies or flowers. We personally love growing our root vegetables in beds. We tend to interplant in our raised beds so right now we have a bed with cilantro, radish, beets, sweet pepper, habanero and leeks. We have another with luffa and turmeric and cherry tomato. We find that we get more by planting a variety of crops instead of just focusing on one.
